Workshop or the Foundations course?

Which is right for you now?

The workshop gives you a repeatable method for designing a playlist, and strategies for personalising and adapting it. Doing that with clarity and confidence, for each unique individual, takes something that grows more slowly. The Foundations course is where that capacity is developed.

The Playlist Design Workshop

A method you can use straight away

Five weeks · Wednesdays from 20 January

This is for you if you want a clear, practical way to design therapeutic playlists. Over five weeks, with Mendel and a small group of peers, you'll learn a repeatable method and put it straight into practice:

  • A repeatable processDesign a therapeutic playlist from start to finish: discovering and evaluating music, organising your library, then structuring, sequencing, mixing and shaping the transitions between pieces.
  • Beyond borrowed playlistsMove past borrowed playlists, intuition alone or broad categories, with a clear rationale for the musical choices you make and a behind-the-curtain look at how Mendel builds his own.
  • Personalising and adaptingA foundational understanding of how to tailor music to each person, and practical strategies for adapting it in the moment when something isn't landing.
  • Learning by doingBuild real playlists between sessions, on your own and in triads, with practical mixing lessons and software to practise on.

You'll leave with a method you can trust, a well-organised music library, and playlists you've built yourself. You'll also leave with a far wider musical world, and the confidence to sequence, mix and adapt music with intention.

Foundations of Therapeutic Music

A new way of working with and relating to music, developed over time

Nine months · Wednesdays from 17 March

This is for you if you want greater clarity and confidence in the musical decisions you make. Over nine months, with Mendel and a small group of peers, you'll grow three core capacities and integrate them fully into your practice:

  • Therapeutic MusicalityDeepen your own relationship with music: how you listen, what you notice, why it moves you. Learn to hear the music as the person you're working with might hear it.
  • Situational FlexibilityUnderstand each person more deeply and read what's unfolding, including how setting, language and relationship shape the way music lands, so you can choose, adapt and respond with confidence in the moment.
  • Integrative UnderstandingHold many perspectives on music at once (emotion, neuroscience, developmental psychology, culture and spirituality) and make your decisions from that whole picture.

Graduates describe a changed relationship with music itself. They hear it differently, understand the unique musical language of the people they work with, and trust themselves to respond in the moment with clarity and creativity.
